God's Trashcan

Tonight, as I was reading bedtime stories, and also read the Easter story to Lovely before bed, out of the blue she asked "Where did the crown of thorns go?" Before I could say anything (or think of anything), she said - "I think Mary tossed it up to heaven and it landed in God's trashcan."

Pretty cool, eh? Out of the mouth of babes!

HAPPY EASTER!!!!!

  1. The Roman Catholic Church actually has it. I don't know the history of how it was preserved or who picked it up the day of Christ's Passion. But each year during Lent, what the Church recognizes to be the authentic crown placed upon Jesus' head is brought to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. (It is usually kept at a different church in or near Paris - not in public view.) Anyway, each Friday of Lent, they have a service at 3PM at Notre Dame - Veneration of the Crown of Thorns.

Although I didn't understand any of the words (I don't speak French), it was the most incredible part of my visit to Paris 5 years ago. Some of the hymns were traditional, so I knew what I was singing even though I didn't know the language in which we were singing. I highly recommend Paris in the spring for the single reason of attending this service. Our Church is so chock-full of amazing and wonderful history.

Happy Easter to you and the family. Give them all our love.

  3. Holly - I LOVE the history, and this is fascinating! Thank you for explaining it. I remember in Germany seeing the tomb of the 3 wise men, as believed. Very cool!!! That service in France sounds lovely and incredible. (I remember thinking the same thing about singing in German....)

I thought her response was really cute. :)

I miss you and love you!!
