1) being outdoors
2) planting a garden
and today, I got both (and not just being outdoors while planting HAHA, duh on me)!
This morning, I got word of our little town's egg hunt. Since we had decided to get out to a nearby state park today and take advantage of some fun events, we thought a little detour to the egg hunt would be fun. It was....interesting. For it being the 19th year in a row, it felt very unplanned. It was almost like they were not ready for the crowds, and the actual hunt had little organization and was a mob scene. The 1st round Lovely was almost taken down by parents and kids and didn't get a single egg (just broken pieces)!!! She got a second turn in another area and had much more fun. We stayed only for a bit, then left for the state park and the great outdoors!
Lovely enjoyed the sights, we enjoyed the weather, and we even had a surprise meet up with her BELOVED VeggieTales characters Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. We also got to take Pinky with us. Pinky is her PreK's class "pet". Pinky is a stuffed jaguar that comes with a journal for pictures and journal-ing of her adventures with each student in the class. Usually she stays a weekend, but we were lucky enough to her her a WEEK! We'll have a lot of writing and picture taking to do! Pinky will have quite a week!!! We also got to make crafts. Lovely made a little ant out of googly eyes, a popsicle stick, and pipe cleaners. We ended our time by enjoying the woods and the streams and waterfalls. Lovely waded in, and then really got wet - and you know what? I LET her. I let her just wade and splash and swim. We only live once, and it was such a warm day, and after all that walking the water was so refreshing!
Such a FUN afternoon!!! After we left, we took Lovely to her grandparents for the night, so we could both do yard work, and me to practice for tomorrow with less distraction. I also did some gardening!!! I love doing that and have missed it!! (I took last year off....)
When we got back and I practiced, Hubby mowed the lawn and I enjoyed my sunset and night gardening! I planted 18 Dianthus flowering plants in the front yard (store special), and got my herb garden planted on the patio - cilantro, basil, and chives along with a strawberry plant in easy access pots. It FELT so good to get my hands dirty, be quiet, and plant! It is very satisfying. I loved listening to the crickets, feeling the breeze, and smelling the soil. This week "brings on" the veggie garden in the yard. We'll plant pole beans, squash, cucumber, zucchini, sweet yellow onion, green onion, spinach, and tomatoes. I already want a salad.....hehe.
I'd better wrap this up and get to bed. Big day tomorrow with Palm Sunday mass and then packing for my sister's for a few days. We're staying in a cabin in the mountains for 2 days to do some kid friendly activities (her neighbor is offering their cabin) so we're really excited! Lots to plan for, and rest for!
Much love!
