Day Book - Monday Edition

Outside my window... a cool early evening with both sun and threatening dark rain clouds.

I am thinking… how hungry I am!

I am thankful for…the fact it has been a great day!

From the kitchen… I'm waiting for the cook top to warm up to cook instant brown rice, warm already cooked pork & cream of mushroom, and steam some frozen broccoli. Yes, it is an "instant" dinner....but at least it isn't fast food, right?

I am wearing… running shoes, running shorts, and a red shirt.

I am going...to a craft night tonight - and I have plenty of projects to work on!

I am reading...craft magazines for ideas for Lovely's tea birthday for her class.

I am hoping…I get lots done tonight so I'm not stressed this weekend!

I am hearing...the sound of the TV in the den and steamy water on the stove.

I am creating… a page layout for a 60th b-day this weekend AND the whole said tea party.

I am praying… for a certain someone.

Around the house… I'm SO behind!!!

One of my favorite things…my couch....I need to avoid it and do some work around here (but I love snuggling with Valiant though!)

A few plans for the rest of the week…watching our little E, possibly attending a MOPS meeting, hopefully see friends in the evening this week, hosting a playdate Friday - attempting to clean the house!!

A “picture thought” I’m sharing…

Lovely as a baby :) Where has the time gone???

Cool new addition!

Happy Saturday!

The girls and I just spent a great Saturday with my parents, sister, and niece for my sister's birthday. We ate at a really NEAT local cafe and just enjoyed each other. It was one of those really GOOD visits and days.

I'm now looking forward to a quiet evening. We did have a fun evening to look forward to, but germs invaded (feel better!!! Rain check!), so now we'll just have a quiet family evening instead. I totally understand how germs go! We're thinking of still grilling out, but just some hot dogs, or maybe we won't grill and I'll just make a veggie pasta dish. Either way, I'm ready for family movie night!

Also, though I'm still working on it - I'm working on a new addition to "a rosey outlook on life". I can't wait to unveil it in a few weeks!

Until then, I'm off to my family! Much love!!

Friday Five - Thoughts on Homeschool Edition

Hey!

I really want to say thanks for reading my last post. I put it out there, very unorganized, and yet I'm getting e-mails about it on all aspects of the spectrum. I really appreciate it. No matter where you stand, you boosted my faith. I think what I want to do is turn those sentiments into a blog post to address them, cause they are all really good! Plus, I need to keep thinking about this if I want to have the guts in a few months to do this with Lovely. I have so many fears, doubts, and worries....and that is how I feel most days lol - not just on homeschooling. HAHA! I need to know where I stand, despite how much I love and value the traditional system.

That said, I thought in honor of all these ideas on homeschooling, I'd post my Friday Five with links to either bloggers or specific posts that give me some inspiration, challenged me, or gave me thought into this way of learning and life, along with "IRL" (in real life) support! These bloggers home school for MANY different reasons, backgrounds, & goals and each gives food for thought and great ideas! So, with no further adieu:

1. Jennifer at Conversion Diary lays out some great questions for people thinking about homeschooling. She addresses a LOT of areas of concern for ANY wannabe homeschooler and their philosophy or angle, and let her commentors give their insight to address the big concerns listed. All areas, reasons, and ideas welcomed!

2  Kate at Momopoly is starting to homeschool preK this year, and blogs about her vision, worries, and inspiration on her site. She spells out why she knows this is the right direction for her family, and the many inspirations and routes to get her family on that journey (she has some great comments too, one that talks about affording educations vs the flexibility at home. I could have written that response).

3. Melanie at Otherwise Educating is also just getting started in this new frontier. She has some fantastic thoughts and great ideas on what this journey means for their family. She writes candidly, shares pictures, and much more. She has a funny video here (and thoughts too).

4. Links that I have found helpful are: Why We Homeschool, an article by Sarah Reinhard about taking the plunge, About Homeschooling, The K12 program, Montessori, Suzuki, Montessori based Good Shepherd, Classical learning (links on Kate's blog).

5. And S ALWAYS inspires me!!

I'm sure I'm lagging in more areas, but this is what I've stumbled on, or always known. This is what speaks to me, so of course has my own personal bias - but food for thought is good for anyone. I'm always ready to learn of more sites, blogs, and friends who also do this (love ya Kris! You need a blog) who have wisdom to share! I am so thankful for the support and ideas. Much love!! Many blessings!

TGIF!!!!

a little homeschool'n on the brain...*Edited*

Also I'm seriously going to ramble here....and I promise, none of it makes ANY sense. I'm very complicated.

Also, I should note...these are our feelings, my feelings and perspective. Where I'm about to ramble can make people say "she's saying WHAT?!"

And EDITED to add to something Blair said....if it sounds like I'm trying to explain/rationalize/justify myself...I am. I have had some doubters in my family question, and I just feel like I need to explain - though I should not - but I'm always seeking affirmation in my family (I shouldn't) so yeah....this was me vs the voices in my head....(plus being a former teacher, knowing so many teachers, I feel guilty (!!!??) in a way thinking what I feel.

So tonight was "Curriculum Night" at Lovely's school. As nice as it was (it is a nice neighborhood school), Hubby and I kept making comments about nice homeschooling would be next year. Yes, faith is a HUGE factor for me...it's as natural as breathing to me, and I'd love to infuse it into our daily routine instead of just before and after school as it is currently. That goes without saying. It's also the fact that we (Hubby too) were feeling nudged just in things we were seeing and hearing academically. Again - great school, incredible staff, and we're enjoying the experience so far (her teacher is a dream and I could see our other kids doing K there, and boy do we LOVE walking there), and I have incredible friends who are and were teachers and made their classrooms incredible places (please don't ever think I'm not supporting their passion, I was a teacher too! My sister is an award winning public school teacher and a person I aspire to be - she's that awesome) - it was more in hearing music is one week a month, art is one week a month, recess is whenever they can squeeze it in, Lovely's too young for choir or the running club (she's mentioned wanting both). I should add, of course in her K class they do art and music everyday....I'm talking about a focused class with its own teacher; time to be creative in movement, music, and hands on art and where PE does not replace recess. Also, we just kept commenting how fabulous it would be for us to see her do it all these discoveries and creations. The K program seems pretty well rounded, but where we got the nudges was from grade 1 and up - the standards get strict for math and reading, and science and social studies get alternated - they just are not done as much so they can focus on other things...HELLO!! How is that molding minds ready for the future? How is music one week a month, or art one week a month helpful? I mean, really, helpful, to older kids. Children need more. How is skipping recess remotely good? I started seeing us making music in our living room, and art with our friends, taking a break from a frustrating lesson with a break to the backyard swing...and it just kept flowing...

I want more.

When they talked in the meeting about us coming for lunch - I was thinking of how she and I could MAKE lunch - along with all the fun in setting the table, (very Montessori) etc. Maybe even share with other friends co-oping the journey with us! When they talked about using touch boards and technology to explore geography - I thought about how nice a nature walk could simply be, seeing and touching and then taking what we EXPERIENCED to the computer and make something technological to practice those skills....but keeping in mind we FELT it first, SAW it first, SMELLED it first. Same as a museum - being there makes it POP! I LOVE technology. I taught high school for 7 years and loved having projectors (LCD) and the use of labs and the internet....it brought learning in the classroom alive, and yet, I loved escaping the florescent lights at the end of the day, walking to my car and feeling life outside. If given the choice, does one want to watch a lesson or experience it? Why make my lessons "come alive" if I can see them BE alive. I loved where I taught. I went there too...and I'd love it if my kids wanted to go there too - but to have a few years of learning with them, feeling the learning happen...wow. I pray I can do it next year.

Why? Even though it can be good....I just desire more.

And to top it all off...the freedom to just experience daily prayer, daily mass, or children bible stories in our day? That's awesome to me! That's awesome to Hubby. We get to do what we already do at home, and keep grooving with it. I love our teachers and schools, public and private, but I am saddened that the only time God enters Lovely's school day is one word in the Pledge. I'm sure someone could say - "send her to a Catholic school" and that is great, but then we're back to the whole nudging I feel to experience schooling more full bodied in faith, diversity, and one on one learning than in a classroom with a school bell in her childhood. Also something for us to consider - cost. Paying for it and me still being able to work less so I can spend time with our family more doesn't work either for me personally or economically. I about lost it trying to teach and be a mom. For me, it was too hard. Keep in mind...I taught in a Catholic High School and loved it. Incredible...I had the FREEDOM to pray, talk about the world and topics of all faiths and cultures that can't be mentioned in the public setting. I felt free to open doors in their minds all while ending the day with a Life Teen Mass. I'd go back there to teach in a heartbeat if I had to. I'd send my kids there if we could afford it, or I felt I could handle working and being a mom emotionally again. Great community, but I'm talking about the childhood years now and potentially beyond.

That said, I do love where Lovely is now (see, I'm complicated!). I simply feel called to take the reins (if I can...a whole other post would be my worries about pulling this off for my family) for the primary grades more so than preK and K. I have friends who have done amazing things in the public school realm. I also think in public school there is a richness of diversity that more matches the world our kids live in. Things that could be more fully experienced if the focus was not test scores, reading levels, and math achievements. Lovely doesn't even get handwriting lessons anymore, so where is the time to enjoy the beauty of what's around us, who's learning with us, what makes us the same, what makes us different and that we are together for a reason? The pressure on teachers to get them "ready" for a short term goal outweighs the bigger picture. My sister and friends who teach, or taught, public school I know were and are incredible! I think I did a great job the year I taught in the public realm and I wish I had done more years in the public realm for myself. Teaching is a vocation, an incredible, underestimated, and undervalued vocation. We're planted where we are needed and called for a greater purpose, so I'm not debating public vs private in terms of teachers - I'm just embracing the freedom I had when faith was allowed in the equation for so many discussions, topics, history, questioning, embracing the last 6 years I taught than the first. I'm also embracing the call to be the primary teacher for my children - which we are ALL called to be as parents, at a public or private school, and home school.

I just want more.

I just AM - I'm who I am, one who thinks about faith, loves spirituality in so many forms, delights in the innocence of the young and their blossoming faith as something so pure, something to be cherished, and I want to see those moments more. So we feel called to home school. I want to be there for the academic, and the spiritual. Plus, I want to be able to say Halloween, or all Soul's day, and not just "Fall Festival" while learning! I want What (Who) inspires us to be a part of our day.

That said, I love Pre K's, I love Kindergarten. I'm glad Lovely has had them and I want our future kids to enjoy them too. Moms need to trust that inner voice and follow the path that they are called to. I don't feel called right now for the early years (maybe cause of my background?) I think my friend Kris said, "you take it year by year, child by child." I know we'll do book based learning - probably a curriculum to help me out as well. I'd love to co-op! I want to blend Montessori (Lovely will be starting one aspect of that that I want to adapt at home as well by starting our parish's Montessori program, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, in a few weeks) and Suzuki learning (both are incredible). It's just that having the opportunity to give it a try and be there for their learning - and the freedom to infuse our day with our faith - is my dream. And that dream was bolstered even more tonight.

I like what is, I like the different choices to learn, I like where I've taught and where Lovely currently is. I just want MORE.

Now, if I can just get past my worries about pulling it all off...hmmmmmmm. I need to put my $ (and *cough* a little faith) where my rambling blog typing fingers are. I just want to do and give MORE. I can't figure out how to say it succinctly and more clearly than that.

**********************************************
These stars are for new additions to this post, especially as I read comments. Melanie had two thoughts that rang with me, and I wanted to say 3 things:
1) I agree - when one hears their teachers say "you have a great kid" or "we love having them in the classroom" or "they are the class motivator" it makes me want to be the one who sees that on a daily basis. Lovely is not usually grumpy after school, but I hear comments like this a lot and I wish I could see them unfold. Also, when she and I have done one on one learning before, she shows a whole new side with me...and really loves it. It makes me feel good about aiming to do this. That and the fact she asks to do it every other day or so. Her best friend does it, and she has seen it in action, and even at almost 6 - she can state it. We'll see what she says closer to 1st grade, but right now, she does love the idea even as she loves going to K.
2) I do hope my teacher friends know that I am totally supportive of the work they do. One day I may even go back to teaching high school. When trying to organize thoughts it can look like I'm dissing a system, or them. I'm trying to say that each part (public, private, Catholic) contributes to an incredible "big picture". I just want to have a shot at bringing all that together and having the big picture at home. And of course, schooling at home can seem like just another part of the big picture - and I'm trying to figure out how to word my feelings and goals to show how I see homeschooling bridging a lot of those areas and creating a lot of freedom and faith growing and incredible moments for us both.
3) I do have fears. I want to balance out her social experiences, I want to keep our relationship safe (not fighting each other when we learn). I just want to give it a try and see where it goes.....year by year...step by step.

Small Successes and Thankful Thursday!

Well, it's another sleepy Thursday morning. What a week! We've been battling the "ickies" over here, so I feel behind in a lot of areas, especially extra rest - but some things have gotten done! I'll have to jot them fast so we can get on with our day!! :)

FaithButton

1. I completed my 30 day Challenge this past Monday!!!!!! I worked out (with scheduled rest days) boot camp style the last month and loved it. It was very empowering to start something, and finish it, without getting bored. I credit that to the Wii Active which switches things up, so it never got repetitive. I'll start another challenge next week. I'm doing some walking/resting up as I battle what feels like a head cold coming on.

2. I've really enjoyed cooking this week. I've been trying new foods including meatless meals, tofu noodles, homemade sauces, etc. I strive to be the cook that my friends are!!! You know who you are...and you ain't CRANKY to me!!

3. I've functioned this week. With 2 sick kids, little sleep at night, and the feeling of a head cold coming on for me...I've been fighting back and little else has gotten done. I got a quick escape Tuesday visiting our friends (and that felt good - makeup and real clothes?? REALLY?) but otherwise we've been in the trenches, and it feels good to see things have gotten better in a faster amount of time then normal.

How's your week been?

Thankful Thursday
This week I'm thankful for....

1. feeling connected again.
2. the returning health of my family.
3. friends who remind me what an honor it is to be the one the kids want at 1, 2,3, and 4am - even as I feel I'll lose it. Cause, it is. Really.
4. being able to be at home with my kids everyday.
5. my parents.
6. my marriage and incredible husband!
7. my precious girls.
8. hidden blessings, unanswered prayers, small miracles.

Many warm thoughts, blessings, and love to your day!!!

Day Book - Monday Edition

Outside my window… a cool morning. What a CHANGE from the past summer days! I feel a hint of fall and I'm SO READY for it!

I am thinking… about how complicated I make life when it doesn't have to be.

I am thankful for… the fact that both babes are sleeping today and Lovely is back at school, well.

From the kitchen… I'll be prepping the crock pot later to make Mexican Chicken Tortilla Soup. YUM!!

I am wearing… running shoes, running shorts, and a blue shirt.

I am going...nowhere today (aside from school to get Lovely).

I am reading…magazines and blogs...both when I have time. It's been one of those weeks/weekends.

I am hoping… that I don't get sick!!! I'm tired of the germs and viruses!

I am hearing...the sound of the fan in our bedroom.

I am creating… as best I can (not a lot of time lately) some picture uploading and projects.

I am praying… Baby Valiant gets well soon!!

Around the house… laundry, cooking, and man....cleaning...ugh!

One of my favorite things…my Wii Active. I just finished my 1st 30 day challenge (boot camp!). I didn't miss a day (I did have scheduled rest days)!

A few plans for the rest of the week…not much. I'm going to let the girls rest up from being sick. We'll have a make up piano lesson sometime this week instead of today for that purpose.

A “picture thought” I’m sharing…
Points to those who can guess what this is of (if you do know...no naming locations!) hehe!

Happy Monday!

Dust Busting the Gloom

So, as I've said - we're in a sick, germy house. Gloomy? Fear not, all is NOT lost.

Lovely has decided to play with the dust buster. Imaginative play AND a cleaner house? I LOVE childhood!!

"You give me Fever..."

I've been humming that Eva Cassidy song "Fever" the last few days, as Lovely has had this fever (sounds like her class has it) and now Baby Val does too. Luckily, they sleep well, and are happy as long as fever reducers work. I've canceled our plans for dinner tonight, and with our niece (she would have been our babysitter) and we'll settle in for a quiet weekend. The girls and I will stay home from church tomorrow too and hopefully rest this virus away!

I'm up early this morning, enjoying the sounds of a sleepy, quiet house, and doing some internet reading. I'd better get off to it before the little ones tell me it is time for them, hehe!

Stay Well!

Small Successes and Thankful Thursday

Good Morning!!

Another Thursday has come! As I write this post breakfast while Lovely gets ready for school, it's a nice feeling to know we all woke up easy, and are already fed and full from a good, "morning fuel" breakfast. I was starting to get concerned about a cough from Lovely, but it seems MIA now. I hope we all continue to have a great day! But, I have to look back....did I have any successes this week?

FaithButton

1. Well, up until this morning I THOUGHT I was keeping the house pretty clean, with the help of Lovely and fam. But now my kitchen floor looks a little less spotless. BUT, still - overall...I've kept up with things way better than last week!

2. I've managed to cook meals again (after slacking this summer!) this week and last. I've broken out the crock pot again and made some great meals if I do say so myself! I've tried some new stove top and oven recipes and my family has been really excited!

3. I've been trying to do some more "Spirit" feeding lately. It was easy to slip away from anything that built up my faith, and its amazing how I can feel less "zing" in my day and mood. I've been trying to do some devotional reading as soon as I wake up, so my day has some definition. I can't tell you how our school schedule has helped me do that!

What are your successes? Have you taken an inventory yet?

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for...

1. Getting to enjoy this yesterday. So fun and quintessential childhood....
2. a really good visit yesterday. It is amazing how a good conversation and a even better person can lighten the heart.
3. my family!
4. that my time with E is going so well, even with some mutual "both girls fussiness" yesterday.
5. my parents' health - they are both doing so well!
6. my niece, and that we get to see her this weekend!
7. a group church date night this weekend. We love our supper group and fellowship!!
8. patient friends in my life - who put up with my quirks, worries, and apologies with a lot of grace. You have NO idea how grateful and humbled I am.
9. health.
10. For my God who is there for me, even when I feel...well...I haven't been enough!!!

Off to walk to school! Much love!!

Gotta Love a Warm, Rainy Day

Cause when you have warm weather, and no threatening weather - you can enjoy jumping in puddles on the way home and playing outside with friends!!

Day Book - Monday Edition

Outside my window…a surprisingly sunny day for a forcasted rainy one.

I am thinking...do I like iced coffee? Or not? Hmmmm.

I am thankful for...my husband. He was really supportive this weekend.

From the kitchen…Teriyaki Steak is cooking away in the crock pot. Smells great!! All we'll add is rice and veggies and dinner is done!!!

I am wearing... brown cropped pants and old pink shirt.

I am creating…a dinner routine for this week and all the rest as I figure out our afternoons post school.

I am going…to hopefully take a nap in a bit, then play with Valiant post nap before picking Lovely up, then piano lesson, then meeting up with former students for a visit!! Can't wait!

I am reading…nothing currently (BOO!). Unless I count blogs.

I am hoping…with a nap, and some meditation later I can lift the mysterious weight on my spirit. Perplexing.

I am hearing...the sounds of this cool link in the background. It is meant for babies, but I have it on upstairs most days to create a relaxing and calm state in my bedroom.

Around the house…the house is actually semi-orderly. I need to start some more laundry though, and do some Flylady.

One of my favorite things…Valiant snuggling against me this morning. I. LOVE. IT!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Tomorrow brings back E's return. Tomorrow night is Mom's Night Out, and we'll be seeing The Time Traveler's Wife at a theater that serves dinner while you watch. Our book club read this book and loved it (well, I speak for myself). It will be great seeing it with other readers so we can see how it compares with the book. We'll stick close to home the rest of the week, and then maybe a baby playgroup Friday before naps.

Here is 'picture thought' I am sharing…

She brightens my days while her sister is away.

Happy Monday!

Girl's Night In?

I love blogs. I love time with my friends....this contest from Scary Mommy blends both with its prize!!

It is definitely a trip down memory lane, a feast for the senses, and funny quips.

If I win....I think we're having movie night at my place - I'll provide the Nutella!!!

"Lovelyisms" again

So I have some more gems from Lovely. These come from her first week of Kindergarten!

When I pick Lovely up from school, they bring the walkers to the front office so we can walk home before carpool starts, etc. Her teacher and I get to talk some at this time. Mrs. S seems to love Lovely (YEAH!!) and says she's so funny and great to have in class. I'm really pleased they are off to a good start, cause I always over worry about Lovely, her happiness, behavior, acceptance, etc.

Mrs. S said that yesterday they were learning about punctuation, and all Lovely would do was exclamation points (!), and did them for every word. When asked why, Lovely said loudly:

"Because I'm SOOO EXCITED!!! My world is an exclamation!"

I love it!!

My parents stopped by, and while they were visiting, Lovely went upstairs and came down with a flag and a doll. She asked Pop (my dad) to play with her. He asked what they were going to play, and she said "The Pledge of Allegiance." She told Pop "ok, so you take your hand and put it over your heart and stand up...."

hehe - I guess I've never said the pledge around her, so this is new stuff for her LOL!

Gosh, I love that kid!!!

She's on the move!!

Look who, at 13 1/2 months, is on the move! And, totally her own style. Hopefully she'll always stay this original and not follow the crowd ;)

PLEASE excuse the messy room. As you can tell, I had more IMPORTANT things to focus on this evening!! And, she only had eyes for me anyways....hehe!!

Did someone order some upliftment and a smile? You got it!!!

Friday Five

Ahhhhh, sitting down. Babies napping upstairs, sound of the fans blowing air in the house, sipping water.....NICE!!! I won't mention the sound of the pile of laundry sitting next to me on the floor calling my name rather loudly. I should fold it while the babes sleep...but, I don't wanna lol!!! Well, until I hit "publish."

So, it's "TGIF!!" Yeah! I look forward to a restful weekend. I had made plans to see an old friend and her son, but our kids seem to be getting under the weather - so it may be a sign that is too much after the 1st week of school. BUMMER for us....I know we'll make it happen though. At least the fam and I will get to be together!!!

I'm looking forward for some time to rejuvenate. I've had some of those "stressful" thoughts enter my head again....weighing down the spirit. I'm trying to "choose how I feel" and battle my darker moments (I know we all have them - where we worry too much, feel insecure, people pleasing, or doubt) but sometimes it is hard. Ok, a lot hard. I may have to turn on some music, reflect/pray some, or jump around and get some endorphins going lol! A little faith right? I'm sure the walk to school to get Lovely will perk me right up!

Let's hit the countdown before the babes wake up, or the laundry tackles me!!

1. I need to start planning Lovely's 6th B-day. I'd like to have it on the 6th. She wants a small tea party. It will be fun, girls could come all dressed up in whatever they wanted to feel girly, or tea partyish. But - it is hard making it small, the details, etc. We also don't want people to bring presents. Last year we did a book exchange...everyone swapped books and took them home. What could I do this year that is like that, but works with a tea party theme? Hmmmmm.

2. I'm looking forward to a movie night tonight. Slum Dog Millionaire after bedtime? Kid movie before? We'll see how it goes with our Family Time, and how everyone is feeling....

3. I'm thrilled dinner is already made. Yummy leftovers we actually like!! LOL homemade Baked Turkey and Cheese Chimichangas. YUM!! Easy to make too!

4. I'm really looking forward to Sunday. On days I feel down, I look forward to the community uplift from my church. The mass and the people do wonders for my soul (music too!!).

5. I'm soooooo grateful Lovely has had such a fantastic week back, AND my week with two babies has gone sooooooo well! AWESOME!!!!!

Well, this was short and sweet. Time to gather the troops! And laundry....and Flylady my kitchen....is it Friday yet???

TGIF!!

Wait - a thought just came to me as I thought about the babies upstairs. You know how everyone raves about how precious and miraculous these souls are? And it is true...they are, indeed, utter perfection and a miracle! It kinda just hit me that somehow we sell that miracle short post babyhood. Toddlers, children, teens, adults...are we still not that miraculous soul that came kicking and screaming into this world? Sure, we have our less than perfect moments now...lives made interesting with crosses, choices, mistakes and successes - but we are still those miracles, here for a purpose...correct? So today...I CHOOSE to say I honor the miracle that is you. You are wondrous and precious and you make someone's day just by your presence. Blessings and faults, the whole package....you just ARE.

That's a miracle if I've ever seen one.

TGIF!! (again! hehe).

Small Successes and Thankful Thursday - Catch Up Edition

Wow!!! What a week! I have so many personal and shared successes this week - some of which I would have posted sooner, but Blogger was giving me major issues. I couldn't even access it for a 2 days. WEIRD! But hey...life is to be LIVED, so that I did! I'm so glad to be able to catch up on it though through pics, video, and lists!! Thanks for indulging me!

FaithButton

1. I let go this week. Of my 5 year old....to Kindergarten!!!! Oh my soul!! I was both BURSTING with pride and excitement (Lovely's excitement was so palpable) and sorrow. This is my baby we are talking about here!!! I miss her already. We're hoping to homeschool next year, but I thought this would be a fun year for her, and I could be home some more with my baby and Godbaby and make plans for next year. She is loving it!! We walk to and from school, and I am beginning to treasure that time with her. I love the walking. She did tell me today that even though she loves school, she wants to learn with me soon (like her best friend will be doing) and I told her that would be great when she's done with this year, and she said "ok", and rattled off how much she loves her teacher, Ms. D the crossing guard, lunch, music, and math lol. I have a feeling she has some huge growth ahead for her!!! WOW! My baby is growing up. I love her Kindergarten program so far, and her teacher seems fantastic. It is very loving, and small, and I love it is nearby. Here are some pictures (and Video) from her 1st day:

Here is a video I took. Right as I started, she did something she and I had mentioned this weekend...but she MELTED my heart. I kissed her hand on Sunday and told her if she missed me at school to put her hand to her cheek, and I would be kissing her (I've now learned that is a story - "The Kissing Hand"). In the video she blows me a kiss, and then puts her hand on her cheek. If you notice, she starts to look in another direction. She sees a child crying. She gets up when she sees no one with them....and goes to them (clip ends before you see this, but I stuck my head in to see). She touched my heart. I love her!! (weeps...)

An incredible first day, and week!!! Letting go is hard, but the best part is when they come right back!! :)

2. I'm managing, and ENJOYING the time with my two babies...Valiant and Goddaughter E. She's such a love. I'm still managing to keep the house from being a total disaster for Lovely and Hubby when they get home too. I hope though to conquer the laundry today while the babes nap! Here is a video clip of Baby E and Lovely (post school) and how much she is loved. Here Lovely plays a lullaby for her when she sees E smiles when she sings or does some music:

3. I am on day 16 of the Active 30 Day Challenge
, and have not missed a day yet!!! I love that I have not quit yet. It helps, though, it is different workout everyday. I have no excuse to claim boredom for not working out. Having rest days help as well! Cause yeah...I, uh...live for the days of rest!!! hehe!!

Whew! What a week! Feel like sharing yours?

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for (in no random order)....

1. the air I breathe, the food I eat, liquids to drink, and a body that works so well.
2. naps.
3. things that remind me that I am beautiful, even when I don't believe it.
4. Smiles.
5. Hugs.
6. Laughter.
7. My husband.
8. My daughters.
9. That my God is there for me even when I am not there for Him.
10. My time with these two "Little Miracles" (see shirts) while my eldest is away learning....

I'm so stinkin, filthy, rich....in all the RIGHT ways. Goodness!

Care to share your riches? Much love!

Wordless Wednesday - Reunion Edition

Class of 1996 - we still got it!

Blogger issues?

Has anyone else had blogger issues the past week?

Blogger kept giving me error messages from both my computer and hubby's work laptop, and when I could load it - it seemed to not have any of my favorite blogs listed anymore...wiped clean. I was feeling a bit bummed - this was a big week - kindergarten, etc. Plus, I follow so many different friends and bloggers, I was sad at having lost them.

Luckily, it seems to be working again, and my lists are back! I hope to get some pics up and an update soon! Maybe even a video?

Much love!

Friday Five - Boost Edition

I am having a FANTASTIC Friday. It was a great ending to the last 3 GOOD days. I started taking care of my goddaughter E (almost 4 months old) and I can't say enough what a blessing she is to our lives. She enriches us. We've smiled and laughed more the last few days at this new soul in our house. I'm sure we'll have those days of screaming fits, or my "irish twins" (E and Valiant are 10 months apart) needing me at the same time creating some adorable chaos, but this week was such a great start. E fits right on in, no surprise there! I've always loved having my family, or my friends' kids over - so I'm so glad I can enjoy this more daily!

Lovely enjoyed her last weekday of summer before school too. We had her friends over for one last summer playdate. She had fun - I barely saw her lol. It was such a boost to be around kids and friends I haven't seen with our summer business. This summer has almost been maddening with its new events - but great! I'm ready for some routine again. Lovely has now gone for a sleepover at my parents, and Hubby and I are going gate shopping tonight - Valiant became a bottom scooter. It's hysterical! E was the perfect motivator to get her moving! all she wants is E - she calls her "Doggie" (everything smaller than her that moves is a doggie thanks to my sister's Westie dog) and will scoot anywhere to get to E, and attempt to touch her face hehe! I can't leave the two of them alone yet, Valiant does not know her strength! The rest of the weekend is family time, planning for next week's SCHOOL start (ACK!!) meal planning, and mass.

I thought I'd do my Friday Five with some favorite quotes from my daily readings. One of my favorite publications is the Daily Word - affirmations and reflections to remind us of being God's chosen child. They have an affirmation, an explanation, and a passage from scripture. It helps me during my low times, AND my good moments, to find my "rosey" outlook. I believe in the power of positive thinking, and the Trinity gracing it to me. The website gives the same readings I read in my magazine in the morning with my other devotionals.

1. "I am free in mind, body and spirit...spiritual freedom..has no limitations. I can choose how I fill my heart and mind. I can choose how I experience God, how I pray, and how I practice the presence of God in my daily life. Embracing freedom of Spirit, I break through any self imposed limitations and open myself to divine possibility...by choosing encouraging words, uplifting thoughts, and positive habits, I give full expression to my spiritual freedom." For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters - Galatians 5:13

2. "I am the one and only me...I may not think of myself as a creative person but I know that I have unique talents and gifts to share. For instance, art may appear on a canvas, or it may appear in a meal prepared with love. Some hands sculpt clay or play a musical instrument, and some gently hold the hand of a child. Wisdom can be found in books, but it can also be found in quiet conversation across the kitchen table...as I more fully express who I am, I bless others, and blessings flow back to me. I am creative, productive, and open to divine inspiration. I give my gifts to the world." Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. - 1 Corinthians 2:12

3. "I am attuned to the goodness of God...the gentle pattern of raindrops...enjoying a conversation with a friend, joining in laughter with loved ones - what blessings they are! Such simple pleasures are but a few of the abundant gifts from God that enrich my life's experience...I acknowledge my blessings one by one. As I do, I open my awareness to the goodness of God all around me. Truly I am blessed beyond measure." Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. - Psalm 37:4

4. "I am grateful...even if I am going through a challenging experience, I am grateful, for I know that good will come out of it. Will I learn of inner strength that I didn't know I had? Will I gain a renewed appreciation for my life and the people in it? I am grateful for my present circumstances, for I know they offer opportunities for growth. I thank God for the life I have been given and the life I am creating by seeing all the good in all that comes before me." Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving. - Psalm 95:2

5. "Wherever I am, God is, and all is well...if at any time today the order and harmony of some aspects of my life seem uncertain, I clear my mind of all concern. There is no need to worry. Just as season follows season, wave after wave, and sunrise follows sunset, all is well. I honor myself for the perfection that I am as one of God's creations. I know that I am in the right place at the right time. All that I do today and every day is blessed with God's goodness. With gratitude, I affirm: Wherever I am, God is, and all is well." My heart is steadfast O God, my heart is steadfast! - Psalm 108:1

I pray wherever this finds you, you know grace is pouring down on you...and even if the world fails you, or you limit yourself with worries and insecurities (So ME!!!) God will not. You are never alone!

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit :)

Happy weekend! TGIF!

Small Successes and Thankful Thursday

FaithButtonGood Morning! "It's gonna be a bright....bright...bright sunshiny day!!
(with a 40% chance of rain here)

I'm up enjoying the sun while it lasts - It is supposed to be a rainy week, but of COURSE it chose to rain on the only day it said it would not, while we were at a picnic with friends! Well, darn! We'll see what surprises the weather has today!

It's been a great week thus far! I've managed to get a few things done! Here are 3 things!

1. I started watching my goddaughter E yesterday. Our day here went swimmingly! She was so easy, fit in well, and was a trooper (doing a piano lesson AND Kindergarten orientation) with our schedule. I felt so successful balancing this first day with a 5 year old, 13 month old, and 4 month old. (Does it still count when I sadly was updated by her mom J that she then cried the whole evening till she crashed in bed at 6:30pm??? I feel terrible....I guess yesterday was too much of a change for her). I'll be anxious to hear her evening update tonight!

2. I'm on week two of a boot camp on my Wii Active. I have not missed a scheduled day. It feels good to do something and stick with it! Today is another work out day with tomorrow being a rest day. I always look forward to rest day...lol!

3. I've managed to focus more on hubby this week - more talking, more listening, more time. Some weeks I feel we are more connected than others - and I don't like the times we are not on the same page, or feel like roommates. We love each other dearly...we just have to keep putting US on the list too.

What are 3 successes for you? Fill free to post them!

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for.....(in no particular order!)

1. feeling more rested!
2. the good feelings I get from Lovely's new school for the year.
3. All the teachers currently getting ready for another school year - home school and schooling alike. I appreciate all the time you sacrifice.
4. honesty.
5. God's generosity in all areas of my life. He is so Good!!
6. That I'm still giddy and "happy happy happy" over a friend's dream job! I can feel the stress lift from them from my house!
7. my parents - that they are here, healthy, and still enjoying life.
8. my family.
9. my new time with baby E :)
10. feeling God stirring hope in me during my more inward, lower moments.
11. moments that can still be special anywhere - including hiding from rain in parked cars in parking lots. It was still so nice to be "together" and chat, even with losing out on a picnic. It was still a gain!

Off to attack my day!! Much love!!!

"Lovelyisms"

I need to post some "Lovelyisms". Lovely had two funny things happen in conversation I want to remember. She also had one cute one tonight as well.

'ISM' 1 - from that funeral last week:

(We were eating at the luncheon following the service. Everyone at this service was older, so Lovely was a welcomed conversation piece to these older folks)

Mrs. B: So Lovely, anything exciting about to happen to you soon?
L: I'm about to start Kindergarten at __________. I get to take my back pack, and play on the playground, and see my teacher.....and and and (she goes on and on...)
Mrs. B: WOW! Are you kidding? That is just so wonderful. You are getting to be such a big girl!!
L: Um, I'm not kidding.

(apparently she's not picking up on general conversation cues vs. serious intent yet - HAHA)

'ISM' 2 - Post church this Sunday outside

Lovely and Daddy were playing together off to one side. I was holding Valiant talking to another family. All of the sudden Daddy comes up to us laughing and pointing at Lovely playing with a friend from her preK (who goes to our church too).

Me: What's so funny? (Everyone looking at him)
Daddy: You see Lovely playing with T over there? Well he just came up and the two of them had this conversation:

T: Hi Lovely! How are you? Wanna come with me and play "Power Rangers"???
L: SURE (she was so excited)!!! What's a power ranger?
T: I don't know.
L: OK. (off they go play....)

We were cracking up at their excited conversation (Daddy said it was spoken in the most perky voices possible). I loved they were happy to play something they knew nothing about!! We told his parents and they told us he is the only boy in a family of girls, so they forget to watch more boy shows, but he gets hand me downs from friends with characters on the shirts, etc. He'll ask what the characters are, but aside from their names - doesn't always know what they "do." But, that doesn't stop his, and Lovely's, imaginations! I love that!!! Kids ROCK!

'ISM' 3: This evening at a picnic

Tonight we had a picnic with friends at a local park. As the sun was setting, the rays would shine from behind the clouds, making the edges shine, and rays peaking out and reaching for earth (so pretty!). Lovely looked up and saw such a shimmery cloud and exclaimed: "Look mommy, it's God!! He's smiling at us!!"

Yes HE is! Kids are so wise!

Day Book - Monday Edition

Outside my window…a dark summer night (it is Monday, just EARLY Monday).

I am thinking...what a great weekend it has been for getting things done in terms of clothing my girls and I.

I am thankful for...one of our best friends getting a job he will LOVE!!! AMEN! He so deserved it. His family too. Also, I'm thankful for good friends!!!! Friends who are far too good and patient with me. God IS Good!!!

From the kitchen…tonight was breakfast for dinner. I do have a plan for different nights this week...many are crock pot related.

I am wearing... PJ's

I am creating…a plan for the busy week ahead. I just don't have one yet ;)

I am going…to bed as soon as I hit "publish"

I am reading… a new vampire series. I love Twilight and since I read all those books, I need to fill the void :)

I am hoping…I can get everything done and activities set before Wednesday starts my new and exciting gig - loving on my goddaughter 4 days a week!! I can't believe it is here, and that Kindergarten starts a week from today....GASP!

I am hearing...the sounds of my hubby snoring....

Around the house…our closet and chest of drawers are organized! As for the house...nope.

One of my favorite things…did I mention reading....so nice!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Busy busy!! Seeing my sister tomorrow (today), having my niece over Tuesday, then my sweet E coming to see me Wed-Friday. I may take Valiant and E with me to visit my old high school where I went and taught. I love visiting my coworker pals on pre-planning, and I can pass E to her dad who teachers there and he can show her off while I show off my babies LOL! Friday, I may host one last play date for Lovely and her friends before she's school bound! (Weeping...)

Here is 'picture thought' I am sharing…

This is my cousin (who at this time was channeling Jesus' signature look as he was about to play Jesus in "Jesus Christ Superstar") who has a song he co-wrote premiering on CMT's "Can you Duet" show finale this Saturday, 7pm. I'm so thrilled! This will be his second national song spotlight! I'm super proud!

Night!

Feminine

I escaped yesterday to the outlet malls and got school clothes for Lovely, and some needed items for me. I got some new outfits, shirts, pants, a dress, and a skirt from some stores I normally could not shop at. They ranged from things I can wear as a mom daily, to things I can spruce myself up with. I hope quality wise, they last a long time! I never shop for me!

The dress really excited me. I got it on clearance, and even though I can only wear it another month or so season wise before saving it for next year...I had to get it. It just made me feel....feminine. I've watched my close friends wear dresses similar to it every warm season, and I secretly wanted to as well. I just never got a dress I felt secure in (I tend to be a "separates" girl with long sleeves to accentuate the "positives" lol. The last one piece "short" dress I bought was 8 years ago for my rehearsal dinner - I have a pic of it on my blog somewhere. It's pink and straight). When my friend D saw me in it...she said "it's a must!" I wore it to church today, and just felt so airy! I figured I may not be wearing this dress much aside from church, so I got Hubby to snap a picture for posterity (no showers or garden parties - ha - coming up lol).

Is there anything you wear that just makes you feel good, alive, pretty? I think sometimes something feminine does revive us a little spirit wise....it's good to feel like a girl!

Happy Sunday!!
