Day 11- Favorite picture ever taken of yourself.

Well, this is a day late and it is because I could not find what I was looking for, but this picture is a close second.

Here I am around 7 - 8 years old. Christmas time. I love this pic - mostly because of  the necklace around my neck. You ask - "Why, that old rope and metal washer? What type of necklace is that??!!"

Well, that was not a rope and washer to me! It was my gold "sun medallion" that I wore proudly everywhere living out my adventures from the below TV show - The Mysterious Cities of Gold. Did anyone else watch this show? Watch the You Tube clip of the opening song.

See the necklaces the boy and girl are wearing? That was what I pretended my necklace to be, and I constantly pretended I was the girl, Zia. These medallions opened the secret gates to the Cities of Gold, lol.

And....here I am....pretending I'm Zia, off on GREAT adventures, even at a Christmas party. I love the imagination of childhood!! I think I never took that necklace off for months! I was in constant imaginative play from this show for a LONG time.

Such great memories!

Day 10 - A Dream I Had This Past Week Described In Detail.

I caught a glimpse a few days ago of this upcoming topic, so I made sure I would pay attention to any dreams I had. I then e-mailed myself one morning a few days back with this dream before I forgot!

I dreamed about Robert Patterson - HA! You know, Edward in the movie version of the Twilight Saga? Anyways, I dreamed he came to town and stayed with me. Hubby was not in this dream until the end, haha! In the dream we hung out, we texted (ha!! RANDOM), we watched movies, and he did kiss me LOL!!!!
Stay PG people!!!

In this dream I was still teaching at my old Catholic high school - and the school came after me for him staying with me and him kissing me. I hired a lawyer to keep my job (??). I told Hubby it was all a misunderstanding and it would never happen again - and he believed me. I don't remember what happened after all that, or where Robert Patterson went - haha!!

Maybe he'll text me? HA!

Day 09 - Five Things I Want To See Change.

Oh my! I could go so deep with this, or political, or spiritual - but I taught all day today in our school and I'm so wiped! Mondays are long after a weekend off (good, but long!).  Instead, because of the little brain power I have - I'll go "lite" on ya.

Five Things I Want To See Change:

1. In my house - I'd like to see our family stay on top of organizing our respected areas or house maintenance on our own and on schedule, than me have to harass or vocalize what I see constantly. I know I could easily research, make a plan, or ask others what they do to accomplish this, but I get so tired of it being ME that makes the plans or seems like a nag, lol. But, I'll ask - what do YOU do?

2. In the bank - I'd like to do better at saving $$ long term portfolio wise. I feel so girly in this area. I'm great at saving money in a savings account, making budgets, I'm great at couponing when I make the time, and I'm ever improving in cooking vs eating out - but keeping that $$ saved or know what the heck to invest it in - I'm in need of education. I know if I worked things would change, but we made a decision for me to stay home and we love it - but I worry about the age of retirement for us too. I honestly want more kids too, but we need to stay on top of things in a one income family too.

3. In myself - I would like to be more confidant, less scared, more strong, and not care about others more than myself (but then I feel guilty about being selfish...oh SUCH a fine line!). Also, that isn't worded as I want - I am wired to care. I mean the whole "too much" or "at a cost." Hmm, not sure what I'm trying to say - but it doesn't mean I don't love dearly those I love! Hmmm....I'll have to think of the wording.

4. In my community - I would like to see things change around me in terms of taking care of each other. I know that just conflicts with what I said above (me focusing more on me than others) but I feel it does take a village, and when I see others suffer, children hungry, schools lacking support, homelessness, etc I just wish we could all share the load and embrace our communities. Maybe it would create more accountability in our elected politicians.

5. In my country and world - I'd like to take #4 and extend it to my country and our world. We are all so connected and needing the same basic things with PEACE being at the top of the list that I am so confused why we can't work harder at fostering what we need. If we took children from every culture or nation and put them in a room, they would find a way to play - or work through their squabbles to play. Why we lose that ability as adults is beyond me.

Those are my 5 basic things. I could ask for way more, or different categories....but those are my cliff notes!!  I welcome any tips or ideas!

Day 07 - Favorite Cover of My Favorite Song(s).

Well, it is day 7. I can't believe I've posted everyday. We'll see if it continues.

I will say I like today's topic - easy topic! though, I had to change the rules for myself - as I have 2 covers I really like.

The first one is a cover of a song I have always loved. I find the song hopeful, dreamy, and melancholy all at once! I LOVE it!!

This cover is one I stumbled upon online when searching for this song online last summer. I loved it. I think this is a collection of singers from various European versions of "Idol" (like we have American Idol). It was really good! (Sorry you have to click the link, but it won't embed). The last verse guy (Kurt) is really good!

Hallelujah

Enjoy!!! What are yours?

Day 06 - Earliest Thing I Can Remember.

LOL!!! I am very clear on the earliest thing I can remember. I've told people many times. I actually remember a dream (to me, a nightmare, though in the retelling, it is funny) I had around age 4. It could have been age 3, but I'd be pretty amazed if I was that young and remembering. In the dream,  I wake in the morning, and start to walk to the kitchen to get breakfast. My dad is in there cooking. I remember he calls to me if I'd like to have a glass of milk. I say "yes" and he tells me to come get it. As I cross the living room, all the furniture comes to life and is talking to me, threatening to get me. I think I was afraid of the furniture eating me. I dive under the coffee table (that was not "alive") and call out to my dad for help. He never comes from the kitchen - but instead keeps repeating "Come get your milk! Here it is! Are you coming?" He never does anything, just keeps telling me to come for the milk - LOL! I'm calling out for him to save me. Thanks Dad!

HAHA! So, my first memory is really a dream. Interesting!

Day 05 - A Thank You Letter to Someone Who Has Changed My Life.

Dearest Lovely, Valiant, Gift, and Hubby (their Daddy),

I've been given an opportunity to sit down and really think hard about something very important. I am addressing this letter to some little someones and a big someone who have changed my life - and goodness, have you!

Lovely, from the moment I looked into your eyes I knew my life was anew. All of the sudden it wasn't just me anymore, it wasn't just Hubby, and living day to day as we had been - we were a family and given a blessing to nurture and put first in our lives. Every day you smile, giggle, and do your famously cute facial expressions that remind us of Charlie Brown cartoons and bring such joy into our lives. Your imagination is amazing. I look at you and see myself at your age and feel so proud, so excited! You are so smart too. Being the oldest, you also are the refiners fire - putting your Daddy and I through our paces and showing us what we need to be doing as guardians of you and your siblings. We are your parents, but God entrusted you to us - in the end, you and your siblings will go back to Him and we're just here to help guide, form, enjoy, and witness the growth as time passes WAY too fast. But, what would I do without you? Where would I be without you? At times, I want to force, not form - and being a parent means learning to let go. I'm not the one in control. I would like to think I am your teacher, but really - you, Lovely, teach me. You teach me ALL the time and I adore it you cute, befreckled, musical, brown eyed girl. You look up to me everyday while still grabbing my hand, hugging me, checking to make sure I'm "still there" and that your are "just checking" on me. You are my world, you form me every day, and lead me to always look upwards in thanksgiving. I stop what I'm doing each time I hear you play the piano. When you sing, I sing along. I am a lucky, blessed woman to have been given such a gift in you. Your name, among many descriptions, is lovely, and beautiful in form - and truer words could not be spoken. Lovely,  I love you.  You have changed my life forever, for the better.

Valiant, you tiny pixie and spitfire all rolled into one! Where would I be without you? YOU made Lovely a sister. What an amazing gift you are to her. She is a fantastic gift to you. You are at an age where you follow her around the house to be near her, and just yesterday you woke from your nap to learn she was not home and you cried for her for so long. You are just starting to really put your words together, and hearing you tell all of us that "Eye uvv ewww" when you see us and "Gah Besss Ewww" when we sneeze just make our hearts melt. Even your baby brother reacts to how you say his name in your little way, and you've led us all in calling him in the same inflection. You gave him his first nickname - what a great job!! You have a smile that closes your eyes in a crinkle and makes people feel good. You are a singer too, quite the budding artist. Everything is a song to you. Don't ever stop the refrain - let it go on and on and bless others as you bless me and your family. I treasure our snuggles and our cuddles. You and your sister are growing far too fast, so forgive me when I ask you and Lovely to slow down a little. Keep sharing your hugs with others. You have no idea how much better that makes others feel when you embrace them arms outstretched. If only we all could be that way to each other all the time.  It would be heaven on earth. Your name means valiant, and strong. I can already tell that at age two, you live that description loud and clear. So, to you my little piece of heaven - Valiant, Eye Uvvv Eeeww. You have changed my life forever, for the better.

Gift, I've only known you face to face for three months, with only 40 weeks of unity and movement before that. Just like your sisters, you had me in your spell from the moment I knew you were in my tummy. You expect me to be a better person and to grasp for my full potential. You and your sisters have revealed one thing in me I know you would want me to change - how selfish I am - and how much I want to fight that and grow into the person you need and want me to be. I'm selfish in how I want to stop time, baby you, keep you little forever. I've also shown how selfish I am when you cry out at 3am and I want to sleep, or at 7pm when the girls are in bed and I sit down to relax and have "me" time and you remind me it isn't just me anymore. In fact, you AND your sisters do that well - call me out on my selfish tendencies and refine me into a better person. I'm a flawed, limited person - but when you look at me, and smile your gummy smile and settle in my arms or turn your head at the sound of my voice - I feel like a superwoman and your everything. I need to prove I deserve you. You and your sisters try to make me a little better, a little more holy, a little more selfless each day. Don't ever stop. I will continue to make mistakes, and I pray you will forgive me for them, but having you in my life, sleeping by my side at night, cooing and talking to me during the day is music to my soul. I'm a far more blessed person having you, my son, in my life than I was without you in it. I can't wait to see who you become as you grow. Your name means Gift - and I can't wait to see what you give to the world. I love you. You have changed my life forever, for the better.

Dearest Hubby. Where can I possibly even begin? The words on this page only exist because of you (and of course God). But without you there would be no Lovely, Valiant, or Gift. Doesn't that slap you silly? They are here for a reason and life purpose and that is because I met you. You literally changed my life. It is mind blowing. We've been together over twelve years, and married for nine and we truly have tasted each and every word of our vows in various degrees. We've had sickness, we've had health. We've had good times and bad. We've had better and we've had worse. But in all that, I have felt your love and have felt cherished. We've overcome and will continue to fight the good fight from this day forward until death parts us. We left that honeymoon phase a long time back, but we've entered richer territory haven't we? I think we are both learning every day that romance is no match for love. If a person was to really read Corinthians 13: 1-8 they would see love is not easy, or remotely romantic. Love never fails. We may fail, but fighting for our vows is love. Every fire pit that our bare feet have walked through has only strengthen us at the test's end. I have a life partner who demands I try harder every day to be my best, and daily you change my life. You are the epitome of sacrifice (I'm still always right - HA!) to your family.  I'm not sure what I would do without you. I am better for knowing you. You are simply a miracle. Hubby, I'm so deeply in love with you. You have changed my life forever, for the better.

I've gone on and on and yet I still feel I haven't said enough or rightly. I guess I'll have to keep on attempting to live it.  At least I have the perfect muses under my roof.   THANK YOU.

I give you all my love,
Yours always,
VM

Day 04- What I Imagine Paradise To Be Like.

Imagine a day that you feel inspired, happy, perfect, and at peace. Or, when you feel infused with the Holy Spirit, or when you've overcome a huge obstacle and feel that sense of relief (it certainly doesn't have to be a feeling of achievement). If you've stood on the edge of the ocean, or a mountain vista and you feel small and outdone by something much bigger and more powerful and "fuller" than you are, or you have looked in your child's eyes or heard their laugh and drink in their innocence, purity, and sweetness - then put all those aforementioned feelings and images together in your soul and you have what I imagine paradise to be like when I'm called home.

I totally imagine, as hard as it is to let this world go (and I honestly pray for a long life and to see my children's children), I can only imagine that the feelings mentioned above as I am embraced by God will probably be something that will render me speechless and the above guesses totally weak in comparison to my eternal reality. I'm guessing the feeling of relief at the end of this long, emotional journey that life is, will be unrelenting and joined by feeling totally loved, accepted, at peace, unified, pure, and totally sweet. My soul will be home, and I'll finally be complete. I imagine it will be unimaginable joy.

And - being in a place with my loved ones for EVER with our Creator? Paradise.

Tomorrow - a thank you letter....

Day 03 - The Five Songs I Would Have With Me On a Desert Island and Why?

This topic made me laugh. As a former high school teacher I know my students would laugh at this because they knew me so well. What's so funny? I NEVER know the titles of the songs I'm listening too!!! I only know the tune. It probably goes back to the fact as a kid, what I listened to was censored to the point I barely could listen to anything outside of classical music or Disney soundtracks HA (I still wish things had been different for me in the listening arena, but now as a parent - I'm tempted to hide my kids from the world, so I totally get why my mother succumbed and I was in a musical bubble LOL!!!! Love you mom!)! When I went off to college, the world of musical genres opened to me and I appreciate a lot - but I never know what it is - hehe. That said, while knowing I'm probably forgetting a TON of good choices, here are 5 songs in random order:

U2 - Beautiful Day - There are about 3 other songs that would make this list too, but if I had to pick, this would be on that iPod. If I had to be alone in a deserted island, this would keep me upbeat.

Amazing Grace - This song has always lifted me and fed me. AMEN AMEN!!! I know God, having made me in His image does not see me as a wretch, but many days I feel like one. Just humming...The Lord has promised good to me...His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be...as long as life endures...can make my day whole again. I was blind, but now I see.

Another hymn would be on my iPod. Like Amazing Grace, I could pick an artist and make sure it made my iPod list. The hymn is It Is Well With My Soul by Horatio Safford. He wrote it after losing both his fortune and then later, most of his family in a boat sinking. For many, this is a deal breaker with God. But not for him. He knew there was more than this world to live for. His words: When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Refrain: It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul.

The B-52s - Really, anything classic by these guys LOL. I loved Roam Around the World and Love Shack!  Talk about some party music!

Powerful Ballads. You know...any of those big 80s songs, or Celine Dion or Josh Groban. I love to belt those out!!!

Chant or Eucharistic Hymns. I could name many I really love, especially in new recordings or our music group's arrangements of them. One could just be randomly picked for me.  I find they put to music the words I feel as I approach the altar every Sunday. I also love chant. I admit it! It is so soothing to hear. I feel tied to the past somehow. I love how I hear more of it during Lent. It makes prayer very focused for me.

Country Tunes - I love country music  :) Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, on and on....I never know the titles, but I love the music!!!

Sweet Home Alabama, Georgia On My Mind....I love these old rock 'n roll or jazz classics. I love those genres. I like how I feel when listening to them...either just feeling some freedom and some rock, or tied to a place and soothed.

Oops! I went too long! I'd better stop!!! I've already broken the rules!!!!! ACK!!

Day 2 - Something That Inspires Me

Wow. Where to begin on this topic. What doesn't inspire me?

Nature inspires me. When I am in a large cove in Tennessee with bowing grasses and rolling hills - I feel soothed and refreshed. When standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon I feel awed by my God and how He could create such beauty. When my feet sink into the wet sand on the edge of the beach in the Gulf, I feel small and humbled - inspired to be a better person because this world just isn't about me. I'm simply a small part of big Plan and there are endless possibilities in store for me and others. When standing on top of a granite mountain or wooded Appalachian peak, I soar. I'm free.

Overcoming adversity inspires me. When I see others stay strong in the face of challenge, it forces me to remember "why NOT me" and to keep the faith. Tests, crosses, and frailties will come my way - how I respond to them, even if driven to my knees, is part of the package. Attempting to find the greater lesson, the hope, and the faith and not feeling alone is part of that journey and what inspires me. Adversity has touched my life in those I love, like my husband, my family, my friends and their tenacity to crawl and cling their way back to standing while keeping the faith has only inspired me more.

Music inspires me. It can be music of ancient times, or the first orchestral work, to rock 'n roll and spirituals. It is the soundtrack of my soul. I hear a piece and my mind just wanders and my heart soars. Playing music with my husband is always an inspiring moment for me. We just seem to fit together musically. It is truly a joy to share a duet or arrangement with Hubby.

Truly though, the most important inspirations in my life are my immediate family. My husband inspires me to be a better wife. He works hard for us to do what we have been wanting for a long time  - me to stay home for now and to have more children. His sweet spirit after growing up in tough circumstances and then his later health issues inspire me to try harder in all I do. He's not perfect, but he's pretty wonderful and very inspiring, and I'm FAR from perfect - HA!. Our children are a HUGE inspiration to me. I am motivated to take better care of myself, see the world through their eyes in all its wonder, laugh more, have a childlike faith, and inspire me to reach out for others when I need it. Children know they can't make it alone and are OK with it. They reach out without feeling guilt or remorse. They simply love greatly. I can't make it in this world alone but I hate to admit it. If only I could trust others and God like my children do. Nothing is more inspiring than that.

So, what inspires you?

(I'm sure I'm forgetting more inspiring things, but these are the things that stuck out to me the most.)

Day 1 - Guilty Pleasure

I discovered this guilty pleasure after Gift was born. I'm not sure why - maybe a craving? Because for 32 years before this I wouldn't go near the stuff. Well, partly. The closest I have come to it was a Jamocha shake from Arby's. Have you guessed yet? It would a Mocha Frappachino.

Since Gift's birth, I've craved the coffee taste without actually wanting to drink straight coffee. At first (and I still do) I preferred the frappes from McD's, then the Moolatte's from DQ, then I tried a Sheriden's Coffee Frap and it was WEAK! Let's not think though about all the calories.....what's a girl to do? Then I discovered my own big taste, less calorie edition. I just get lowfat coffee ice cream and add skim milk and some chocolate syrup, stirred into a shake consistency and whhaaaala! Heaven in a bowl or tall glass! Homemade ones are now my favorite though I still will down a McD's frappe daily if I allowed myself !

I love love LOVE my guilty pleasure. It truly is good "me" time. Not that will ever stop me from milkshake runs...wink wink!

Double Edged Sword

Emotions. Heart. Mind. Spirit. What miracles they are to possess as humans. With the gift of emotion, we feel. We can be compassionate. We can be givers. We can appreciate because we can both feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and never take life for granted. Having a heart makes us real. It helps us to really see others and ourselves. Just as emotions can make us givers and compassionate, a heart can enable us to receive, or even take, what we need. It allows us to love. It makes us vulnerable. It has the ability to make us unconditional.

The mind may not always agree with the heart - which is a good thing. The mind can be logical, decisive, conscientious. It is free will. The mind can also be very conditional. The mind is functional. It is as limitless as the heart and has so much potential for good - but can also be as limited as it defines itself. The spirit is our soul. You know I believe spirit as in the Spirit and thus is our life's breath and fruit. It is God. It is inspiration. It is faith. It moves us. The spirit compels us. It also lifts us. The drive in our hearts and minds is fed from the spirit. Emotions are born from it. It weaves it all together into our identity and calling. Superhuman actions, strength, and miracles spring forth from us in times of crises because of the Spirit in us. This shows we are not alone, even if we think we are. Even if our bodies are broken, if we are open to the Spirit within us, we can be so much more than our limited, aging, and weakening temporal homes attempt to allow.

What a miracle all four of these aspects of humanity are. How simple, yet complex they are. And when located in my body - quite the double edged sword. I lose my balance and think, or feel, or use, or rely too much on one of them - then trip myself up in the attempts for the others to catch up. Thank God that for me, the loss of balance drives me to my knees and reminds me of my need for a Savior, and how I can't look for other things or people to quench my thirst to fill a void. Anytime I feel unbalanced and cut by the sword, I know what priority needs to be at the top of my list again. It is just so hard to let go of that cross. I get lost in the web of my emotions, heart, and mind. They even detract from the purpose the Spirit lead me in doing in the first place. What first is a God given gift I'm compelled to use becomes an obnoxious flaw that others want to avoid, thus pulling them away rather than being bothered. I try to change, feel I grow toward change, only to fall a second and third time (or more).

My big mouth often gets adhered to my heart and emotions and my words and actions reflect a Spirit inspired movement - but so often I don't let my mind weigh in and rethink or soften my response. I then do things for others I over worry about later. I worry about being perceived as people pleasing rather than simply giving of my heart - which I feel is something I am called to do. I worry though in that calling I say too much, or do too much. Or, I see my flaws and want to fix them, forgetting that I'm in a flawed world surrounded by flawed people doing the same things I do. My gifts of emotion, heart, and mind trip all over each other and I can't take another step. I stumble in weakness to my knees needing to draw from that inner Spirit. I need its fruits. I need discernment on when to say yes, and when to say no. I need to remember I need to foster the same spirit in my family, not just for my friends and community. Some friends simply have become family that lines blur. Unconditional love is what makes a family. Unconditional is what comes from above. Unconditional is when emotions, heart, mind, and the spirit work together. United, they also forgive. I thank others for forgiving me for my mouth, insecurities, my "too muchness." I work daily on letting go of my flaws, and forgiving the mistakes of others who have hurt me.

I just wish forgiving myself was easier. I feel I'm almost way to unconditional on others than myself. I wish letting go and letting God was easier; that change was easier.

Emotions. Heart. Mind. Spirit.

What a double edged sword.

*cough* I'm sorry, did you say FIRST Grade?

No way....my little baby...

is in FIRST grade??!! Really? No way!!!

Apparently, "yes WAY!"
She picked her outfit the evening before, was up before me waking me up for breakfast, led the way in getting ready, and was ready to learn by 8am - just like her friends (to hear more about her 1st two days...please go here). It was a delight!

Why do they age without our permission though, even when every stage and age is wonderful? *sigh*

I've been writing...

just not much here. You can see the school prepping going on here. Tips or ideas ALWAYS welcomed!!

Thanks!!!
