Wow. Where to begin on this topic. What doesn't inspire me?
Nature inspires me. When I am in a large cove in Tennessee with bowing grasses and rolling hills - I feel soothed and refreshed. When standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon I feel awed by my God and how He could create such beauty. When my feet sink into the wet sand on the edge of the beach in the Gulf, I feel small and humbled - inspired to be a better person because this world just isn't about me. I'm simply a small part of big Plan and there are endless possibilities in store for me and others. When standing on top of a granite mountain or wooded Appalachian peak, I soar. I'm free.
Overcoming adversity inspires me. When I see others stay strong in the face of challenge, it forces me to remember "why NOT me" and to keep the faith. Tests, crosses, and frailties will come my way - how I respond to them, even if driven to my knees, is part of the package. Attempting to find the greater lesson, the hope, and the faith and not feeling alone is part of that journey and what inspires me. Adversity has touched my life in those I love, like my husband, my family, my friends and their tenacity to crawl and cling their way back to standing while keeping the faith has only inspired me more.
Music inspires me. It can be music of ancient times, or the first orchestral work, to rock 'n roll and spirituals. It is the soundtrack of my soul. I hear a piece and my mind just wanders and my heart soars. Playing music with my husband is always an inspiring moment for me. We just seem to fit together musically. It is truly a joy to share a duet or arrangement with Hubby.
Truly though, the most important inspirations in my life are my immediate family. My husband inspires me to be a better wife. He works hard for us to do what we have been wanting for a long time - me to stay home for now and to have more children. His sweet spirit after growing up in tough circumstances and then his later health issues inspire me to try harder in all I do. He's not perfect, but he's pretty wonderful and very inspiring, and I'm FAR from perfect - HA!. Our children are a HUGE inspiration to me. I am motivated to take better care of myself, see the world through their eyes in all its wonder, laugh more, have a childlike faith, and inspire me to reach out for others when I need it. Children know they can't make it alone and are OK with it. They reach out without feeling guilt or remorse. They simply love greatly. I can't make it in this world alone but I hate to admit it. If only I could trust others and God like my children do. Nothing is more inspiring than that.
So, what inspires you?
(I'm sure I'm forgetting more inspiring things, but these are the things that stuck out to me the most.)

The Holy Spirit often inspires me - giving me a nudge just when I really need a reminder that God is present and loves me. As a "cheesy" inspiration, I love reading stories in the paper and magazines about people's weight loss and hwo they did it with hard work and perseverance. Helps me get my butt off the couch to exercise!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Some of our stuff sounds the same. We must share a brain - LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteYes Kris - the Holy Spirit! For sure. Thanks for the reminder! I just wrote about the Spirit in a post down below after a reflecting day....amen to that!
