I should call this "up too late" edition as I'm still awake, catching up on online episodes of "Caprica" - this prequel to a great re-imagined show Battlestar Galactica. It's such a fascinating look at society, faith, what is really good and what isn't and do we really know the difference because of where society has lead us? Deep stuff. Anyways, I can't just go to sleep!! I want to get caught up and watch so I can watch a new ep on Friday. I'll pay in the morning....ugh! But, it IS now Thursday, so what are my successes this week?
1. I've made good on a private promise to spend more time with Lovely this week. I've been so preoccupied with getting the house ready for a Tupperware party this weekend and my family coming into town that I have been running around, taking care of Val, and really not doing a lot with Lovely (she's so independent, you sometimes can take that for granted as a parent). Thanks to a family night movie all cuddled together in our bed, some play and walking time with just her, celebrating two feast days with her (here, and here) as well as snuggling in her bed after prayers - it's been a really great week for bonding time. I've missed her, and I love having that time with her back! She's so wonderful!!
2. The house is coming together. Still have clutter to attack and dusting to do (oh, and the floors!) but yesterday I felt a great sense of peace. Every room was touched in some way, and that felt really good!
3. This has been a great cooking week for me! I've meal planned better than I have this year (or before the holidays) and have both done meals for pantry clean outs, AND the freezer. We've even been good with leftovers when we have them. I made a sausage and pasta meal to use of some regular "breakfast" ground sausage that had been buy one get one free, and the "free" one not used for anything till now for Monday night; used the leftovers for a fun spaghetti Tues night, and then tonight (well, last night - Wed) I made split chicken breasts marinated in this Buttermilk marinade to help use up the buttermilk we got for the Irish Soda Bread for St. Brigid's Day. It was REALLY good despite my doubting the taste (you know...wondering how buttermilk and chicken go together??? LOL - Let's just say - YUMMY!). The kids loved it too! For tonight I'll be crock potting a beef roast, and if we don't have any leftovers - I'm prepared to make tacos Friday. We'll see what happens. If not, Tacos on Saturday! It feels great!
How was this week for you?? I'd write more, but I'm done watching "Caprica" and need my BED! ACK! It's 2am!
Thankful Thursday
This week I am thankful for...
1. being reminded how fleeting life here on earth is, and to savor every moment!
2. learning a young father we've been praying for is almost in cancer remission!
3. my incredible husband.
4. my daughters - and time with each one that made me feel so rich in blessings!
5. my faith!
6. my friends!
7. blogs out there I read that give me great inspiration for my family, faith, and fun!
Many blessings!!!

That is an awesome week. I so need to get on top of our cooking schedule. Thanks for the inspiration that, yes, indeed, it can be done! Congratulations on all your successes!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the meal planning! I've been so un-motivated on ours. It's so tough when you've got such picky eaters. (Love the phrase "crock potting"! LOL
ReplyDeleteDo you like Caprica? Casinodad was really into Battlestar Galactica (I occasionally watched w/ him), but he was disappointed in the premiere of Caprica. Despite the stuff you mentioned of society & faith, he couldn't get past some of the more offensive scenes, so he stopped about 20 min. into it.
Thanks CH! You always inspire me, so thank you!
ReplyDeleteMunchesmom - it DID get better after the offensive/hardcore scenes. When they backtrack to talk about how the kids got into monotheism and the one true God, they talk about how God was telling them "See? You turned to drug, sex, and violence in this virtual world to fill a void - when only I can do that for you, not other Gods." Those are the themes that get my attention in this "flip" society of our own. Plus, how people follow, trust, or twist these assumptions. It's so deep....so complex.
I found it hardcore too - but not any more than some of the racy scenes of BSG. It is definitely not for kids! I honestly wish shows didn't feel the need to show so much sex, etc. I have an imagination people!! But, I hear though from our friends that clips from future eps show the series will get better. So I can't wait to see what happens. I can only either watch online or at our friends house. So I hope I actually keep it up.
It is facinating to see how Caprica shapes the future BSG series. You watch and want to say "stop....don't create that....don't play God, in 58 years it ends your existance..." but you can't! LOL
sorry..existence. Love my spelling in the morning!
ReplyDeleteCongrats and very inspiring! Especially number 1. Sometimes the other stuff needs to come together to help us get things done easier. But, number one takes true committment as a mom when you have a child who doesn't "ask" for attention. They do still need it :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that meal planning and pantry/fridge clearing out is no small task!! I REALLY need to do this, especially since I got home from grocery shopping last night and had no room in the freezer to put away the meat I bought on sale. Because we have too much frozen meat from previous sales!! I'm committing to plan our menu :)
ReplyDeleteImpressive list. Following a meal plan takes discipline --because there are times when it can feel very confining to comply. You are present to your daughter, glad you got some extra time with her.
ReplyDeleteFamily night sounds like an awesome idea. May have to institute it here.
It is so easy to let things slide a little bit with a child that is doing well! I find that its usaully my middle one right now, since she naps and thats when I get in special time with my oldest. And just when you think you've got it all sorted out, everyone's schedule changes again! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on all the meals too!
Meal planning! Ahh... that was going to be on my agenda today and then I started rationalizing myself out of it and now you've inspired me to give it another go :). Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteYour recipes look incredible. I hope you'll participate next week in Tasty Tuesday!
Great Success! I am really glad to hear you are spending time with Lovely! It is so important to keep those connections because the next thing you know they are nearly grown! I am so happy for you to have that time now!
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much!!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate you all so much! And yes, time with Lovely...priceless. It goes too fast, does it not?
And Meal planning rocks...HA - if I can keep doing it!
Much, much love everyone!
I am so pleased for you and that you are enjoying that special time with your litlle girl.
ReplyDeleteYou have had great success this week.
I love cooking
I have an award for you on my blog - a "Sister's in Faith" award
Prayig for you
God Bless
MY! But you HAVE ENERGY ViolinMama!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the feast days and snuggling in bed with the family:)
Hope you have a ton of fun at the Tupperware party! Good going!
