Gift's Baptism

Father's Day was a big day for our family. Gift was baptized today. My uncle, a deacon, who is also my Godfather (!!), baptized him. It was a gorgeous Mass. It fell on a great day - a children's liturgy. It was the VBS closing Mass, so all the kids did the music, readings, gifts, and sign language. Lovely sang some with her class - (the VBS kids were all assigned cultures or countries, and she was France) and the community welcomed Gift into the church. It was so wonderful. I don't have words for it. I was a bit stressed out over the date the baptism fell on (if you could not be there, you were missed and in our hearts!), but in the end - it was totally perfect. I was so touched by everything, and everyone was so happy. It was so nice having the baptism IN the Mass. It is so nice!

Below, Gift is Baptized. My Uncle wanted all of us to to help support him
as he was baptized just as we are to support him
in faith over the years...

I love Lovely's face below:

One of the bonus parts of the day is now my sweet son still smells of chrism (holy oil anointing his head). We bathed him tonight, but not his head - we're going to drink that scent as long as possible. There is nothing like it.

Gift wearing the cross necklace from
my sister. She has made it tradition
to give each of my children a cross
at their baptism (see next picture).

Lovely's is the one on the left, Gift's is in the middle, and
Val's is on the left.

I wish I had the energy for more eloquent words for Gift's welcome - but I was so proud, beaming, and emotional and HAPPY. God bestowed his Spirit and love and Gift was reborn in Christ....I don't think I have the words.....such love.

Did I mention the heavenly smell of chrism? Oh wow.

What a day for Gift. What a blessed day for our family!!

Much love!

  2. Simply beautiful. God bless him. There's nothing like a baptism during the Mass. That's how my oldest daughter was welcomed into the church. There was so much fanfare around her that family members are still talking about it 8 1/2 years later.

  6. How wonderful! Congratulations! Isn't it so much more special when the baptism is done by someone who really knows the family? My dad is a deacon & was able to baptize all four of our munchkins by full immersion during Mass.
